What you can manage yourself, and what needs a form or a call
WestJet puts most of your trip in Manage Trips, but keeps the sensitive bookings on a form or the phone. Knowing which is which saves time.
If your fare allows a change, you can usually make it yourself in Manage Trips at westjet.com or in the app, subject to your fare's rules and any fare difference. UltraBasic is the exception, it cannot be changed directly, only cancelled and rebooked. When the change is complicated or the site will not complete it, that is the moment to call rather than fight the screen.
Seat selection, adding a checked bag, and adding your WestJet Rewards number to a reservation are all things you can do yourself before you fly, and doing them ahead of the airport is usually cheaper, bag fees in particular rise at the counter. If a seat will not assign or a bag will not add, it is often a fare restriction, and we can tell you why.
WestJet offers a bereavement fare, but you cannot book it online. It is arranged by phone, only on Econo and EconoFlex fares, needs a WestJet Rewards account, and travel must be completed within 30 days. If you are travelling for a death in the family, do not lose time on the site, call and we will handle it with the airline for you.
Adding a pet is not a simple online toggle. Pet spots per flight are limited, you request one at least 48 hours ahead, and the kennel fee is paid through the contact centre by credit card or Travel Bank. Because Hawaii, the UK and other destinations are hard bans and aircraft caps are tiny, this is worth confirming with a person before you commit to the flight.
A child flying alone is not booked through the normal flow. WestJet uses a dedicated online form for the unaccompanied-minor service, and it replies within about 48 hours, then you have 72 hours to confirm and pay. It also runs on Canada-domestic nonstops only. This trips parents up, so if a child is flying alone, let us set it up correctly. Our minors guide has the full process.
You can fix a genuine typo, but you generally cannot put a WestJet ticket in someone else's name, a correction and a change of traveller are different things. If a name is wrong, flag it early through us or the airline, because options shrink as departure approaches, and we will confirm what WestJet allows on your booking.
Most of this you can do yourself free in Manage Trips at westjet.com or in the app. We never publish amounts because any fare difference or charge is specific to your ticket, an agent quotes the exact figure, and our service fee, before anything is charged. We are here for the bookings the website will not handle, and the ones you would rather not do alone.
Self-serve online vs. form or phone on WestJet
WestJet keeps most of your trip in Manage Trips, but a few sensitive bookings need a call or a special form.
undefined
- Know your fare first, it decides whether a change is even possible
- Add your WestJet Rewards number before you fly so the trip credits
- Add seats and bags ahead of the airport, bag fees rise at the counter
- For a bereavement fare, a pet or an unaccompanied minor, plan to call or use the form
- Fix any name error early, a correction is not a transfer, and options shrink near departure
The website quietly stops you on the bookings that matter most. A bereavement fare, a pet spot and an unaccompanied minor all go through a call or a special form on WestJet, not the normal online flow, and people often do not realize until they are stuck. If your trip involves any of them, skip the runaround and call us, we will book it right the first time on an eligible flight.
