How WestJet special assistance generally works
Most of this needs advance notice and the Special Care Desk. Book your ticket, then let us set the assistance up so nothing is missed.
WestJet carries your own wheelchair or mobility aid, a scooter, walker, crutches or cane, free of charge, in addition to your fare's checked allowance. Request it during booking or in Manage Trips. On the 787-9 Dreamliner, up to two guest-owned folding wheelchairs can be stored in the cabin, first-come and one per guest. Arrive at least 30 minutes before the check-in cut-off.
WestJet does not supply onboard oxygen and does not accept oxygen tanks, so a portable oxygen concentrator (POC) is the only way to use oxygen in flight. You need medical clearance through the Air Travel Requirements Assessment Form (ATRAF), sent to MedDesk@WestJet.com at least 10 business days before departure. Your POC runs in battery mode only, each battery under 100 watt-hours, up to 20 spare batteries per guest, carry-on only, and WestJet publishes an approved-model list.
WestJet does not publish a fixed hour-based notice window for wheelchair help, it asks you to request it before you travel, so earlier is better. Oxygen is the strict one at 10 business days. Getting every request on the record early, through the right desk, is what prevents a problem at the airport, and it is exactly what we do for you.
WestJet cannot guarantee an allergen-free cabin, but it will provide a one-row buffer zone around your seat (an individual seat only in the Business cabin). Request it through 1-888-937-8538, the Accessible Travel Team or Special Care Desk. Note that a minor with a severe allergy requiring epinephrine cannot travel on the unaccompanied-minor service, which ties back to our minors guide.
WestJet stopped accepting emotional-support animals on August 5, 2021. It carries trained service dogs only: one, or two if your itinerary includes a flight to or from the US. Book through the Special Care Desk at least 48 hours ahead, and send a registration form plus proof of training to servicedog@contact.westjet.com. Extra floor space is free within Canada; a second seat may be needed for flights outside Canada, and an oversized service dog can travel in the hold free with a kennel you provide. US routes need the CDC dog-import form.
The Special Care Desk and Accessible Travel Team are reached at 1-888-937-8538, and there is a dedicated accessibility line at 1-866-693-7853. If WestJet ever denies a service, it must give you a written explanation no later than 10 days after the refusal. Tell us your needs and we will route the request to the right team and keep it on the record.
Accessibility rules, forms and notice periods are set by WestJet and its regulators and change. We confirm what your trip needs, put the requests on the record through the right desk, and never guarantee an arrangement the airline has not confirmed. You can read WestJet's own accessibility pages at westjet.com.
What WestJet offers, and what needs notice
Most of this must be arranged in advance, and oxygen needs 10 business days. Book, then call.
Oxygen is the deadline that catches people. WestJet supplies no onboard oxygen and takes no tanks, so a portable concentrator is the only way, and the medical ATRAF form has to be filed 10 business days ahead, not the 48 hours many airlines use. Your wheelchair still flies free and a service dog is welcome, but every request needs to be on the record early. Tell us your needs and we will put them all in through the right desk.
