Checking in for your Aeroméxico flight

Check in early, carry the right documents, and mind the cutoffs, that's most of a smooth Aeroméxico departure. A few of those cutoffs are stricter than people expect, especially if a child is flying alone or a pet is going in the hold. Here's what to do and when.

    How Aeroméxico check-in generally works

General timings plus the verified special-case cutoffs. Exact windows depend on the airport and route.

    Online and app check-in:

Check in at aeromexico.com or in the Aeroméxico app, save the mobile boarding pass, and head for bag drop only if you're checking luggage. It's the easiest way and gets the airport queue out of your day.

    Airport counters and documents:

If you're checking a bag, traveling internationally, or anything about your booking needs a human, use the counter, and arrive earlier than you would for a short domestic hop. Mexico City's Terminal 2 is big, and document checks on international departures take real time.

Sending a child alone? Three hours, firm:

For an unaccompanied minor, the parent or guardian must arrive 3 hours before departure, on domestic and international flights alike, and must stay at the airport until the flight has actually departed. Plan the whole day around it.

Checked pet? Two to three hours:

A pet traveling in the hold as checked baggage must be checked in 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international one. Miss the window and the pet doesn't travel.

Minors not traveling with their guardian:

Mexico requires a free INM Minor Exit Form (SAM) or a notarized letter when a minor travels with someone who is not their legal guardian, and it applies on domestic flights too, even a grandparent taking a grandchild. It's checked before boarding, sort it days ahead, not at the counter.

    Documents for international travel:

Passports and visas are your responsibility and are checked before boarding. Aeroméxico publishes no blanket passport-validity rule, each destination country sets its own, so verify your destination's requirement well ahead, and ask us if you're unsure where to look.

Check-in and boarding cutoffs vary by airport and route, and international document checks add time. If online check-in won't go through or a document question comes up, call us and we'll help you sort it before you travel. Aeroméxico's own tools at aeromexico.com are free.

Before you leave for the airport

A quick pre-flight check that prevents most day-of problems.

    • Check in online and save the mobile boarding pass
    • Confirm passport, visa and destination entry rules, each country sets its own
    • Traveling with a minor who isn't your legal child? SAM form or notarized letter in hand
    • Recheck your flight status before leaving
    • Know your cutoffs: bags, boarding, and the 3-hour minor / 2-to-3-hour pet windows

The strict cutoffs are the ones nobody warns you about. Three hours early for an unaccompanied minor's guardian, two to three hours for a checked pet, and the SAM form for any minor traveling without their legal guardian, domestic included. If any of these is your situation, call us the week before, not the night before.

    Frequently asked

When should I get to the airport for an Aeroméxico flight?+
Earlier for international than domestic, and earlier still if any of the strict cutoffs apply to you: 3 hours before departure for an unaccompanied minor's guardian, 2 hours domestic or 3 hours international for a checked pet. Tell us your exact flight and we'll give you safe times.
My child is flying alone, what does check-in look like?+
Arrive 3 hours before departure, domestic or international, and plan to stay at the airport until the flight has departed, both are Aeroméxico requirements for the accompanying adult. Bring the child's documents, and if the child isn't traveling with a legal guardian on any leg, the SAM form or notarized letter too. Call us and we'll walk you through the whole checklist.
My grandchild is flying with me, not with their parents. Anything special?+
Yes, and it surprises almost everyone: Mexico requires the INM Minor Exit Form (SAM) or a notarized letter when a minor travels with someone who isn't their legal guardian, even on domestic flights. The form is free from Instituto Nacional de Migración. Sort it before travel day, it's checked before boarding.
    Online check-in won't accept me, what now?+
It happens with international itineraries, document checks or certain ticket conditions, and often just means checking in at the airport. But call us and we'll confirm why, so there's no surprise at the counter.
