How Viva changes & cancellations generally work
The rules in plain language. Your exact fare and timing decide, we confirm both on the call.
Cancel within 24 hours of buying and Viva refunds the ticket in full. It's the one clean escape hatch that doesn't depend on your fare, and the clock starts at purchase, not at departure, so if you booked in haste, this is the window to use.
Zero allows no changes at all, not even a date move, it is completely locked. Switch allows up to three itinerary changes. Smart allows unlimited changes. There is no way to add change rights to a Zero ticket after the fact, which is exactly why the cheapest fare is the wrong one for uncertain plans.
Where changes are allowed, they must be made up to 4 hours before your first flight. Inside those last 4 hours the window is closed, so a same-day rethink has to happen early in the day, not at the curb.
Viva allows a name correction of up to three characters free of charge, once per booking. That covers a typo or a small spelling slip, not swapping the passenger. If the mismatch is bigger, call us before travel day, tickets are tied to the traveler and a real name change is a different matter.
Beyond the 24-hour window, whether a cancellation returns money or only travel credit depends on your fare, and Viva's refund terms are the deciding document. See our refund guide, or call and we'll read your exact case honestly rather than guess.
That's a different track from changing by choice, and Viva's own published Carta de Derechos commits it to rebooking, and to compensation on longer disruptions. Our flight-status guide walks through the ladder.
Viva has no bereavement fare, but its contract allows a documented refund exception: with a death certificate or medical certificate emailed before check-in, you can request a cancellation and refund, granted at Viva's discretion and, if approved, as travel credit only. Our refund guide carries the full detail and the email address.
Change and cancellation conditions depend on your fare and how the ticket was issued. We never publish amounts because yours is specific to your booking, an agent quotes the exact figure, and our service fee, before anything is charged. You can always do it yourself free at vivaaerobus.com.
The Viva change rules, at a glance
Verified from the airline's published pages; your fare decides the details.
If a cancellation is refundable, how the money comes back
On Viva the form of the refund depends on when you cancel and how you paid, not just whether you qualify.
Cancel inside the 24-hour window and you choose the form, a bank transfer or a Flight Certificate you spend on a later Viva booking.
Cancel with less than four days before departure and an eligible refund returns only as a Flight Certificate, whatever you paid with, no cash or card reversal that close in.
A refund to a card takes about five business days on domestic cards and ten on international ones, if requested within 180 days of purchase; after that it moves to Viva Cash or transfer.
Refunds on those methods come back as Viva Cash, usually within 24 hours. These are the airline's refund mechanics, separate from our service fee.
Who caused the change matters most
The same ticket behaves very differently depending on whose decision it was.
You change by choice
The fare rules apply
- Zero can't change; Switch to 3; Smart unlimited
- All changes up to 4 h before the first flight
- A fare difference applies if the new flight costs more
- The 24-hour window is the one fare-blind escape
Viva cancels or delays
Better for you
- Rebooking under Viva's own Carta de Derechos
- Compensation grows with the length of the delay
- Choice of rebooking, a certificate or a refund on long disruptions
- We press for what the policy actually owes you
Don't buy Zero if anything might move. Zero is the only Viva fare with zero change rights, and you can't add them later. If there's a chance your dates shift, start at Switch, or lean on the 24-hour full-refund window while it's open. One call and we'll pick the fare that fits your certainty, not just your budget.
