How traveling with a pet on Aeroméxico generally works
Verified from Aeroméxico's published pet rules. Confirm the details for your exact trip, they change and some are seasonal.
Dogs and cats only, and the 9 kg limit is pet plus carrier combined, not the pet alone. The carrier must fit the cabin: up to 40 x 30 x 22 cm in the main (Tourist) cabin, and a smaller 34 x 21 x 22 cm in Premier. Weigh the pet in the carrier at home, that's the number the counter sees.
The general minimum age is 8 weeks, but a pet flying to the US must be at least 6 months old. A puppy that's fine for Mexico City to Cancún can be refused for Mexico City to Los Angeles, same dog, different rule.
As checked baggage, the limit is 45 kg including the carrier, minimum age 8 weeks, with check-in 2 hours before domestic and 3 hours before international flights. Snub-nosed breeds like pugs, bulldogs and boxers are not accepted in the hold at all, and neither are breeds Aeroméxico lists as dangerous, including Akita, Doberman, Rottweiler and Tosa.
If the forecast is above 35°C or below 7°C at the origin, any transit point, or the destination, a pet is not accepted in the hold. A summer connection through a hot city can block the whole itinerary, so we check every leg, not just the endpoints.
A passenger may travel with one animal in total, counting in-cabin pet, emotional support animal and service animal combined. You can't bring a pet and an ESA together.
Aeroméxico still accepts emotional support animals, dogs and cats up to 12 kg (26 lb), which the major US carriers stopped doing years ago, a real differentiator if you rely on one. Service animals are dogs only, and Aeroméxico states no weight cap for them. Note an unaccompanied minor can't bring a cabin pet, though they may travel with one service or support animal.
Pet travel carries fees, which vary by route and season, and we never quote them here, an agent confirms the current figure before anything is charged. Space for pets is limited, so call before you book the ticket, not after. Aeroméxico's own pet pages at aeromexico.com are free to check.

Call before you buy the ticket. Pet space is limited per flight, fees are seasonal, and the 9 kg cabin figure includes the carrier, three facts that regularly ambush people at the counter. Tell us the breed, the weight with carrier, and the route, and we'll confirm the whole picture before any money moves.
