How Aeroméxico refunds generally work
Whether you get cash back usually comes down to two things: your fare, and who caused the change.
Refundable fares return value to your original payment. Basic is non-refundable; Classic, Flexible and Premier carry their own conditions that determine what comes back and how.
If Aeroméxico cancels or significantly reschedules your flight, a refund to your original payment is generally available — regardless of how low the fare was.
For tickets issued in the United States, cancelling within 24 hours of booking generally means a full refund to your original payment. Where and how you bought decides if it applies.
Outside those situations, a non-refundable cancellation often preserves value only as a travel credit or under limited conditions rather than cash. Any credit carries expiry dates and usage rules.
Card refunds usually take one or more billing cycles to appear. Filing the request correctly the first time is the fastest path — that's where we help.
Eligibility depends on your fare rules, route and the reason for the refund. We never quote refund amounts because yours depends on your ticket — an agent confirms what you're owed before anything is filed, and aeromexico.com is always free to use yourself.
Will it be cash, credit, or nothing?
The two questions that decide almost every Aeroméxico refund.
Cash refund is likely when…
Best case
- Aeroméxico cancelled or significantly rescheduled
- You hold a refundable fare
- You cancel within the US 24-hour window
- A refund goes back to your original payment
Credit or nothing is likely when…
Non-refundable
- You cancel a Basic fare by choice
- The fare rules exclude a cash refund
- Value survives only as a limited travel credit
- Credits carry expiry dates and conditions
Before you request a refund
Have these ready and the request moves faster.
- Your reservation code and passenger name as booked
- The reason — airline cancellation, schedule change, or your choice
- Where the ticket was issued (US-bought may use the 24-hour rule)
- Any notices or emails Aeroméxico sent about the flight
Airline-caused disruption changes everything. Even a non-refundable Aeroméxico ticket can qualify for a cash refund when the airline cancels or heavily delays the flight — don't assume you're stuck with a credit. Call us and we'll check.
