How Avianca check-in generally works
General timings. Exact windows depend on the airport and, since many Avianca flights are international, on entry requirements too.
Avianca check-in on avianca.com and the Avianca app generally opens 24 hours before departure and closes shortly before the flight. It is the easiest way and usually gives the best remaining seats.
If you are checking a bag or need documents verified, use the counter or bag drop. Bag-drop and boarding cutoffs vary by airport, and international document checks take time, so arrive earlier than you would for a short domestic hop.
Avianca boards by groups and closes boarding several minutes before departure. Higher fares, Business and LifeMiles elite status board earlier, so being at the gate on time matters.
Passports, visas and entry requirements for your destination are your responsibility and are checked before boarding. For international flights to or from Colombia, the Check-Mig form is completed on Migracion Colombia's own site, not Avianca's, within 24 hours of the flight.
If you connect at Bogota El Dorado, know your gate and connection time. An international arrival connecting to a domestic flight means clearing immigration and customs, rechecking your bag, and clearing security again, so do not cut it fine.
Check-in and boarding cutoffs vary by airport, route and aircraft, and international document checks add time. If online check-in will not go through or a document question comes up, call us and we will help you sort it before you travel. Avianca's own tools at avianca.com are free.
