    How Avianca baggage generally works

General guidance. Your exact allowance depends on your fare, route and LifeMiles tier.

    Your fare sets your allowance:

Avianca's XS–XXL fares each bundle a different baggage allowance. Lower fares travel light; higher fares and business include more, and often heavier, bags.

    Carry-on and personal item:

Most fares include a carry-on plus a personal item, but the lowest XS fare can be hand-baggage-limited on some routes. Check before you pack a roller bag.

    Checked bags:

Included from the mid fares upward on many routes; on the lowest fares a checked bag is added for a charge. International routes often differ from domestic Colombia flights.

    Add bags before the airport:

Pre-paying a checked bag online is generally cheaper than adding it at the counter. This is one of the easiest ways to avoid a surprise at check-in.

    Overweight, oversize and special items:

Sports equipment, instruments and oversize items usually need to be arranged in advance and follow specific size and weight rules.

Allowances and excess-bag charges vary by fare, route and status, and change often. We don't publish bag prices — tell us your ticket and we'll confirm your exact allowance and pre-pay bags for you.

    Frequently asked

Does my fare include a checked bag?+
It depends which of the XS–XXL fares you booked and the route. Lower fares often don't include one; mid and business fares usually do. Give us your reservation code and we'll tell you precisely what's included.
Is it cheaper to add a bag now or at the airport?+
Almost always cheaper in advance. Adding a checked bag online before you travel typically costs less than paying at the counter, and it saves time on the day. We can add it for you.
Can I bring my LifeMiles status baggage benefit?+
Higher LifeMiles tiers can include extra baggage allowance on eligible fares and routes. Have your LifeMiles number handy and we'll make sure any benefit is applied.
What about a stroller, sports gear or an instrument?+
These are usually accepted with specific rules and often advance arrangement. Tell us what you're carrying and we'll set it up correctly so nothing is refused at the gate.
