About Avianca
A quick profile of the carrier.
Founded in 1919, Avianca is one of the oldest airlines in the world and the flag carrier of Colombia. It operates an extensive network across Colombia and Latin America, plus international service to the United States and Europe. Avianca is a member of the Star Alliance global network and runs the LifeMiles loyalty program.
Hubs & route network
Where Avianca is based and where it flies.
Avianca concentrates its flights through two main hubs and a strong Latin-American network. Your Avianca trip most likely connects through one of these:
For travelers across the Americas, Bogotá (BOG) is Avianca's principal connecting point, with heavy service within Colombia and across Latin America — often via a single connection.

Fares & cabins — what's included
Avianca's "size" branded fares. Exact inclusions vary by route and aircraft.

Baggage — the essentials
General guidance. Exact allowances depend on your fare (XS–XXL), route and LifeMiles status.
Most fares include a carry-on plus a personal item. The XS fare may limit you further on some routes.
Included from the M fare upward on many routes; on lower fares they're added for a charge. Larger fares include more bags.
Usually cheaper added in advance than at the airport. Sports gear and special items normally need advance arrangement.
We can confirm your exact allowance and pre-pay bags for you — just call.
Check-in & boarding
How to be ready on the day.
Online check-in on avianca.com and the Avianca app generally opens well before departure and closes shortly before the flight. Airport bag-drop and boarding cutoffs vary by airport and by domestic vs. international — arrive early for international departures. Checking in early usually gives you better seat availability.
Boarding is done in groups; premium cabins, LifeMiles elite status and eligible fares board earlier.
LifeMiles loyalty program
Avianca's frequent-flyer program.
LifeMiles lets you earn and redeem miles on Avianca and across Star Alliance partner airlines, for flights, upgrades and more. Higher tiers unlock priority check-in and boarding, extra baggage and lounge access on eligible fares. If you have a LifeMiles number, give it to us when booking and we'll add it to your reservation.
