How LATAM seats & upgrades generally work
The essentials. Availability and price depend on your fare, route, aircraft and timing.
Economy Basic gives you no free seat selection and often assigns your seat only at check-in; Light, Plus and Top progressively add it, with Plus and Top the most generous in economy. The higher fares give you the most say.
LATAM offers preferred seats, near the front or with more legroom, for a premium on most economy fares. They're limited and go first on busy flights, especially long South America runs.
Travelling as a family or group? Select seats as early as you can. On full flights connecting through Santiago or São Paulo the best adjacent seats disappear quickly, and Basic's late seat assignment makes it worse.
Above economy, LATAM offers Premium Economy, a wider seat and elevated service, and Premium Business, its flagship cabin with lie-flat seats on eligible long-haul aircraft. You may buy up at booking, take an upgrade offer, or use LATAM Pass points where available.
Higher LATAM Pass tiers get better seat access and upgrade opportunities. Add your number so any benefit is applied to your reservation.
Seat and upgrade prices vary by route, cabin and timing and change constantly, so we don't list amounts. Tell us your flight and we'll check what's open and reserve it for you, and our service fee is quoted before anything is charged. LATAM's own tools at latam.com are free.
