About LATAM Airlines

A quick profile of the carrier.

Formed in 2012 from the merger of Chile's LAN and Brazil's TAM, LATAM Airlines is the largest airline group in Latin America. From bases in Chile, Brazil, Peru, Colombia and Ecuador it flies the region's most extensive network, plus long-haul service to the United States, Europe and beyond. LATAM left the oneworld alliance in 2020 and is not currently part of a global alliance, though it works closely with Delta as a commercial partner. Its loyalty program is LATAM Pass.

Hubs & route network

Where the airline is based and where it flies.

LATAM is built around several strong connecting points across South America. Your LATAM trip most likely routes through one of these:

São Paulo–Guarulhos (GRU) and Santiago (SCL) are LATAM's two biggest connecting points, anchoring its South American network. Many itineraries between countries in the region — and between South America and the US or Europe — route through one of them.

Fares & cabins — what's included

LATAM's cabins and branded fares, from the lowest up. Exact inclusions vary by route, country and aircraft.

Economy Basic
The lowest, most restricted fare — typically no changes, no free seat selection, seat assigned late, and reduced LATAM Pass points. Best only when price is all that matters.
Economy Light
A step up from Basic with a little more flexibility and standard inclusions on most routes.
Economy Plus
More flexibility again, usually with seat selection and a checked-bag allowance on many routes.
Economy Top
LATAM's most flexible economy fare — the fullest changes, inclusions and LATAM Pass earning within economy.
Premium Economy / Premium Business
Premium Economy adds a wider seat and elevated service; Premium Business is LATAM's flagship cabin, with lie-flat seats on eligible long-haul aircraft.

Baggage — the essentials

General guidance. Your exact allowance depends on your fare, cabin, route and LATAM Pass status.

Carry-on:

Most fares include a carry-on plus a personal item. The lightest fares may limit you on some routes — always confirm for yours.

Checked bags:

Included on some fares and cabins and charged separately on others; allowances differ between domestic South American flights and long-haul international routes. Overweight and oversize bags cost more.

Status and card perks:

Higher LATAM Pass tiers and eligible cards can add a checked-bag allowance for you and companions on the same reservation.

Special and oversize items:

Sports equipment, instruments and oversize items usually need advance arrangement and follow specific size and weight rules.

We can confirm your exact allowance and pre-pay bags for you — just call.

Check-in & boarding

How to be ready on the day.

LATAM online check-in on latam.com and the LATAM app generally opens around 48 hours before departure and closes a set time before the flight — earlier for international travel. It's the easiest way and usually gives the best remaining seats.

Boarding is by group, and premium cabins and higher LATAM Pass members board earlier. International departures need more time for documents and security, so arrive well ahead.

LATAM Pass loyalty program

The airline's frequent-flyer program.

LATAM Pass lets you earn and redeem points on LATAM and its partners for flights and more. Higher tiers unlock priority check-in and boarding, extra baggage and lounge access on eligible fares. LATAM is not part of a global alliance, but it works with partner airlines including Delta, so ask us how your trip earns. If you have a LATAM Pass number, give it to us when booking and we'll add it to your reservation.

LATAM Airlines: frequently asked

Quick answers — call us for anything specific to your booking.

How do I change or cancel my LATAM flight?+
It depends on your fare. Economy Basic is the most restricted and often can't be changed, while Light, Plus, Top and the Premium cabins allow more. Tickets issued in the US may also have a 24-hour window. Have your confirmation number ready and call us, or manage it at latam.com.
What happens if LATAM cancels or delays my flight?+
You're generally entitled to rebooking on the next available flight or a refund; extra rights can apply by route and cause. Seats fill quickly, so call us right away and we'll re-route you.
What is LATAM Pass?+
LATAM Pass is LATAM's loyalty program, where you earn and redeem points on LATAM and its partners for flights and perks. Give us your LATAM Pass number when booking and we'll add it to your reservation.
Is LATAM in an alliance like oneworld or SkyTeam?+
No. LATAM left the oneworld alliance in 2020 and is not currently part of a global alliance. It does work with partner airlines, including Delta, on certain routes and benefits.
