How Volaris changes & cancellations generally work
The rules in plain language. Your exact fare and booking decide, we confirm both on the call.
Volaris allows itinerary changes up to 4 hours before departure, and only on fully paid reservations. Inside those last 4 hours the change window is closed, so a same-day rethink has to happen early in the day, not at the curb.
Changes are possible only before you check in. The moment you check in, your itinerary is locked. On most airlines early check-in is free convenience; on Volaris it's a commitment, so if your plans might move, change first and check in after.
The Plus fare includes unlimited itinerary changes, the only Volaris fare that does. On Zero and Basic, a change can carry charges plus any difference in fare, and the exact conditions depend on your booking, we quote everything before anything is charged.
Volaris sells a Cancel For Any Reason add-on, purchasable only at the moment of booking and fulfilled through its partner Hopper. It lets you cancel up to 24 hours before departure with a choice of an 80% or a 100% refund, it applies to credit, debit and PayPal payments, and it stops working the moment you check in. If your plans are shaky when you book, this is the product to ask about.
When a flight is canceled or delayed, or you miss a connection inside a single Volaris reservation because of one, Volaris rebooks you on the next available flight. Separate tickets don't get that protection, one more reason to keep a connecting trip on one reservation.
Cancellation-for-refund eligibility differs by route type: the reservation must be at least 7 days from departure for international flights, at least 24 hours for domestic. See our refund guide, or call and we'll read your exact case.
Change and cancellation conditions depend on your fare and how the ticket was issued. We never publish amounts because yours is specific to your booking, an agent quotes the exact figure, and our service fee, before anything is charged. You can always do it yourself free at volaris.com.

Who caused the change matters most
The same ticket behaves very differently depending on whose decision it was.
You change by choice
The rules apply
- The window: 4 hours out, pre-check-in, fully paid
- Plus changes without limit; Zero and Basic get quoted first
- A fare difference applies if the new flight costs more
- Cancel For Any Reason helps only if bought at booking
Volaris cancels or delays
Better for you
- Rebooking on the next available flight
- Covers missed connections within one reservation
- Separate tickets are not protected
- The refund clock runs by route type, we check it for you
Change first, check in after. On Volaris, checking in is the point of no return for changes. If there's any chance your plans move, make the change while the window is open, up to 4 hours before departure, and only then check in. One call and we'll do both in the right order.
