First question: did you buy Trip Flex when you booked?

    No Trip Flex

A change or cancellation costs $25 per passenger, per segment. If you booked at least 7 days out you still get the 24-hour free-cancellation window, but cancel inside 7 days of departure and there is no refund at all.

    With Trip Flex

Trip Flex lets you make one change or cancellation without that per-segment fee, up to a cutoff before departure. It's not cash-refundable and its own cost is never returned, but it removes the fee on that one change.

Trip Flex, one change or cancellation without the usual fee, before its cutoff Without Trip Flex, $25 per passenger, per segment, on every change or cancellation 24-hour refund applies only if you booked 7 days or more before departure, not automatic No refund at all cancelling inside 7 days of departure, without Trip Flex Trip Flex's own cost is never refunded, even when it waives the change fee Allegiant tickets generally aren't transferable to another person

24 hours to cancel free. Only if you booked 7+ days out.

Allegiant's 24-hour refund window works backward from what most travelers expect. It's not a blanket grace period after booking, it exists only when you purchased your ticket at least 7 days before departure. Book six days out, or the day before your flight, and there's no shortened version of the window either, it simply doesn't apply. That flips the usual advice: on Allegiant, booking close to departure removes a protection other bookings get for free.
How the timing actually plays out
The moment you book, 7+ days before departure

You have 24 hours from booking to cancel for a full refund to your original payment method, no Trip Flex required. This is the only scenario where the 24-hour rule applies on Allegiant.

The moment you book, inside 7 days of departure

There is no 24-hour grace period at all. Whatever you booked is final from the moment you buy it, unless you also bought Trip Flex, which still only waives the change fee, it doesn't create a refund right that isn't otherwise there.

After the 24-hour window closes (or never opened)

Any change or cancellation now costs $25 per passenger, per segment, unless Trip Flex covers it. Trip Flex's cutoff is before departure, not at the gate, so use it early if your plans are already shifting.

    Inside 7 days of departure

Cancelling now returns nothing without Trip Flex, no partial credit, no fee-minus-refund. This is the point where acting a day earlier can be the difference between getting something back and getting nothing.

How Allegiant change & cancellation actually works

The mechanics behind the fork above, piece by piece.

    Trip Flex is the key:

Trip Flex is Allegiant's paid add-on, purchased at booking, that lets you change or cancel once without the usual fee, up to a cutoff before departure. Without it, every change and cancellation carries the standard per-passenger, per-segment charge.

Without Trip Flex, the fee is per segment, not per trip:

A change or cancellation costs $25 per passenger, per segment. A round trip is two segments, and a connection adds more, so the total scales with your itinerary, not a single flat charge.

The 24-hour rule runs backward from most airlines:

You get a full refund cancelling within 24 hours of booking, but only if you booked at least 7 days before departure. Book closer to your flight than that and the 24-hour window simply does not exist for that ticket.

No refund inside 7 days of departure:

Cancel within 7 days of your flight without Trip Flex and Allegiant does not return anything, cash or credit. The nearer the flight, the fewer your options, so call as soon as plans change rather than waiting to see.

Trip Flex is not cash back:

Trip Flex waives the change fee on one change or cancellation, but it does not make the ticket refundable to your card, and the amount you paid for Trip Flex itself is never returned, whether you use it or not.

Name changes aren't really a thing:

Allegiant tickets are generally not transferable to a different traveler. Minor corrections, a misspelled name for instance, can sometimes be handled by phone, but don't plan on handing your ticket to someone else.

These are Allegiant's own published terms, not ours, and Allegiant can update them without much notice. We'll confirm your exact ticket's rules and any current fee before doing anything.

    With Trip Flex vs. without

Two very different outcomes, depending on one purchase made at booking.

    Without Trip Flex

    Standard fare

    • $25 per passenger, per segment, every change or cancellation
    • 24-hour refund only if booked 7+ days out
    • No refund cancelling inside 7 days of departure

    With Trip Flex

    Paid add-on

    • One change or cancellation without the usual fee, before the cutoff
    • Cutoff is before departure, not at the airport
    • Its own cost is never refunded, used or not

Not sure whether you bought Trip Flex? It's usually listed on your confirmation email as a line item. Give us your confirmation number and we'll check for you.

Why the 24-hour rule catches people off guard

The kind of gotcha that's easy to miss reading Allegiant's terms quickly.

Most travelers assume a 24-hour cancellation window is unconditional, book anything, get a day to change your mind. Allegiant's version has a condition attached: it only exists if your ticket was purchased 7 or more days before the flight departs. Book a trip leaving next week, next weekend, or tomorrow, all common when a plan comes together fast, and there is no 24-hour window at all, not a version with a smaller refund, none. That single date, when you booked relative to departure, decides whether a same-day change of mind costs nothing or costs the full per-segment fee. If you're booking on short notice and there's any chance your plans could shift, that's exactly when Trip Flex is worth weighing before you confirm the purchase, because the 24-hour safety net you might be counting on may not apply to that ticket at all.

Have this ready before you call

Thirty seconds of prep gets it handled on the first call.

    • Confirmation number, the code on your confirmation email
    • Passenger name exactly as it appears on the ticket
    • When you booked, and when you fly, that pair decides whether the 24-hour rule applies
    • Whether you bought Trip Flex, check your confirmation email if you're not sure

Inside 7 days of departure and no Trip Flex? Cancelling now returns nothing, so weigh whether changing (paying the per-passenger, per-segment fee) gets you where you need to be for less than losing the ticket outright. If you're still inside your first 24 hours and booked 7+ days out, cancelling for a full refund and rebooking what you actually want is usually the cleanest move.

Managing the rest of your trip yourself

Changing or cancelling is only part of it, most of a booking you can manage online, free.

With your confirmation number, "My Trips" on allegiantair.com or the Allegiant app lets you handle most of this yourself at no extra cost: review your itinerary, add checked or carry-on bags, pick a seat, and update contact details. Arrange anything that needs advance notice, like a pet or a seating request, ahead of time rather than at the gate. When a self-service change fails, a payment won't go through, the site won't recognize your booking, or you're not sure whether Trip Flex applies to what you're trying to do, that's the moment a call saves the trip.

    Frequently asked

    Do I get a free 24-hour refund on Allegiant?+
Only if you booked at least 7 days before departure. Allegiant's 24-hour refund window applies exclusively to bookings made 7 or more days ahead of the flight. Book inside that 7-day window, even a flight leaving next month booked six days out, and there is no 24-hour grace period at all, not a shorter one, none.
What does Trip Flex actually do?+
Trip Flex is a paid add-on you buy at booking. It lets you make one change or cancellation without the usual per-passenger, per-segment fee, up to a cutoff before departure. It does not make your ticket cash-refundable, and Trip Flex's own cost is never refunded, even when it waives the change fee.
What does it cost to change or cancel without Trip Flex?+
Allegiant charges a per-passenger, per-segment fee for changes and cancellations when you did not buy Trip Flex. Give us your confirmation number and we will tell you the exact total for your itinerary before anything is charged.
Can I cancel and get money back if my flight is in 5 days?+
Generally no. Allegiant does not refund cancellations made within 7 days of departure unless you have Trip Flex. The closer you are to departure, the fewer options exist, so call as soon as your plans change rather than waiting.
Can I put someone else's name on my Allegiant ticket?+
Generally, no. Allegiant tickets are not transferable to a different traveler. Minor corrections, like a misspelled name, can sometimes be fixed by phone, but do not plan on handing your ticket to someone else. Call us and we will check what your specific booking allows.
Do you charge to change or cancel it for me?+
Yes, we are an independent agency and charge a service fee for handling your booking, quoted before you are charged anything. Any Allegiant fee, including Trip Flex or the per-segment change fee, is separate and goes to the airline. You can always do it yourself at allegiantair.com at no cost beyond Allegiant's own fee.
