In the cabin: what Allegiant actually accepts

Allegiant's in-cabin pet program is limited to small domestic cats and dogs travelling in an approved carrier that fits fully under the seat in front of you. There's no larger-carrier fee or bulk allowance, if your pet doesn't fit under the seat, Allegiant simply doesn't have a way to fly it.
Your pet has to be at least 8 weeks old to travel. This isn't a figure to round down on, confirm your pet's age against your travel date before you book.
Two pets can share a single approved carrier, as long as both are comfortable inside it for the whole flight and the carrier still fits under the seat. It's not automatically a two-for-one on the fee, so confirm what a shared carrier costs when you call.
Pet travel on Allegiant isn't a same-day, at-the-counter add-on. It needs to be set up on your reservation ahead of time, so build it into your booking, not your packing list.
The fee is per segment, that's the detail people miss
One number, but it doesn't mean what a lot of flyers assume.
Allegiant charges $50 per segment, per carrier. A segment is one takeoff and one landing, not one trip. Fly nonstop one way and that's a single segment, one charge. Book a connection, or book the return home, and Allegiant applies the fee again for every additional segment. A round trip with one stop each direction can mean the fee is charged four separate times before you're back home.

No cargo or checked pets, for anyone
The single biggest way an Allegiant pet trip falls apart before it starts.
Unlike some legacy carriers that still ship larger pets as cargo, sometimes with exceptions for military or government personnel on official orders, Allegiant's own pages describe no cargo-pet option at all, for anyone. Cabin is the entire program.
There's no "check your dog like a bag" option at an Allegiant counter, pets aren't handled as checked baggage. If it doesn't fit in an under-seat carrier, it doesn't fly with Allegiant.
If your pet is too large for Allegiant's cabin limits, decide on another carrier or a ground-transport option well before your travel date. This isn't something that gets resolved at the airport.
Where you can't sit with a pet onboard
This affects your seat selection, not just your pet's carrier.
Travelling with a pet rules out an exit row and a bulkhead seat, on every Allegiant aircraft. On some aircraft, Boeing jets specifically, you also can't sit in an aisle seat with a pet at your feet. The carrier has to fit fully under the seat in front of you without blocking the aisle in an emergency, and these seat types don't allow that. If you've already picked one of these seats, plan to move before you check in, and if we book your trip, we'll pick a compatible seat from the start.
No health certificate for domestic travel, but don't assume that covers every trip
A genuine convenience, with a real limit.
Allegiant does not require a health certificate for domestic pet travel. That's a real savings in time and a vet visit compared with airlines that do require one, and it's worth knowing before you assume you need paperwork you don't. Carrying your vet's records is still smart in case a gate agent asks or your pet needs care away from home, it just isn't a boarding requirement here.
Allegiant flies a mostly domestic network with a limited number of international routes. If your itinerary crosses into another country, the domestic no-certificate rule doesn't automatically apply on that side of the trip, the destination country sets its own entry requirements for animals. Confirm those separately, with Allegiant and with the destination's own agriculture or customs authority, before you travel.
Service animals are a separate process
Don't assume the pet rules above apply.
A trained service dog is not a pet under Allegiant's policy, and the process is different: Allegiant accepts trained service dogs, requires the US DOT service-animal form submitted through the Open Doors Organization (ODO) portal, and asks that it be filed at least 48 hours before departure. Allegiant allows up to two service dogs per guest and does not accept emotional support animals as service animals. None of the carrier, seating, or per-segment pet fee rules on this page apply to a genuine service animal, so if that's your situation, don't book it as a pet. Before you book, the checklist
A few minutes now avoids a pet turned away at the gate, or a fee that's bigger than you planned for.
- Is your pet a small domestic cat or dog? At least 8 weeks old, and able to fit comfortably in an under-seat carrier
- Counted your segments? The $50 fee is charged per segment, not once per trip
- Bringing a 2nd pet? Up to two can share one carrier, if both fit comfortably and it still fits under the seat
- Picked a compatible seat? Not an exit row or bulkhead, and not an aisle seat on Boeing aircraft
- Crossing a border? The no-certificate rule is for domestic travel, confirm entry document rules for an international leg
Don't budget the pet fee once and assume it's done. Allegiant's $50 charge applies per segment, per carrier, so a connection or a round trip means paying it again for each leg. And remember, if your pet is too large for the cabin, Allegiant has no checked or cargo option at any price.
