How Frontier refunds generally work
Whether you get cash back usually comes down to two things: your fare and who caused the change.
Frontier's published fares generally don't return cash when you cancel by choice; instead the value is preserved as a Frontier travel credit for future travel.
If Frontier cancels or significantly reschedules your flight, a refund to your original payment method is generally available — regardless of how low the base fare was.
Cancel within 24 hours of booking (when you booked at least seven days before departure) and Frontier refunds it in full to your original payment. This is a firm federal protection for US flights.
Outside the 24-hour window, a voluntary cancellation usually becomes a Frontier credit rather than money back. Credits carry expiry dates and conditions, so read the terms.
Card refunds generally take one or more billing cycles to appear. Filing the request correctly the first time is the fastest path — that's where we help, since there's no Frontier phone queue to sit in.
Eligibility depends on your fare rules, route and the reason for the refund, and Frontier resolves these online rather than by phone. We never quote refund amounts because yours depends on your ticket — an agent confirms what you're owed before anything is filed.
Will it be cash, credit, or nothing?
The two questions that decide almost every Frontier refund.
Cash refund is likely when…
Best case
- Frontier cancelled or significantly rescheduled
- You cancel within the 24-hour window (booked 7+ days out)
- A DOT-covered disruption applies to your flight
- A refund goes to your original payment
Travel credit or nothing is likely when…
Nonrefundable
- You cancel a nonrefundable fare by choice
- The value returns as a Frontier travel credit
- Credits carry expiry dates and conditions
- The fare rules exclude a cash refund
Airline-caused disruption changes everything. Even a nonrefundable Frontier ticket can qualify for a cash refund when Frontier cancels or heavily delays the flight — don't assume you're stuck with a credit. Call us and we'll check what you're owed.
