BargainAirTicket is an independent travel agency, we are not Frontier Airlines and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Frontier Airlines. Seat products, elite-status upgrade windows and family-seating rules can change; you can pick your own seat at flyfrontier.com at no cost. If you'd rather we choose your seats or an upgrade, our agents help for a service fee, quoted before you're charged.

Frontier seats & upgrades, pick one, or Frontier picks for you

On Frontier, the seat you get depends on whether you chose one. Buy or bundle into UpFront Plus, Premium, Preferred or Standard, and you control where you sit. UpFront Plus even guarantees the middle seat next to you stays empty. Skip selection, and Frontier assigns whatever's left at check-in, which can split your party up. Here's exactly how selection, bundles and free upgrades by Elite status work, and how we lock in seats before they're gone.

First question: are you selecting a seat, or letting Frontier assign you one?

    You select a seat

Pay for one, get it bundled into your fare, or claim it free with Elite Silver+ status. You choose Standard, Preferred, Premium or UpFront Plus, and in UpFront Plus, the seat next to you is guaranteed to stay empty.

    You skip selection

Frontier randomly assigns whatever's left at check-in, and your party may end up scattered across the cabin. The one built-in exception: a child 13 or younger is guaranteed a free seat beside one accompanying adult.

UpFront Plus GUARANTEES the middle seat next to you stays empty Fee-free adjacent seating guaranteed for a child 13-or-under + one adult, every fare Free seat selection for Elite Silver status and above A seat is bundled into every fare. Standard, Premium or UpFront Plus Not Elite Silver+ and no bundle? Seat selection is a paid add-on Skip selection entirely and you're randomly assigned, your party may be split up

Book UpFront Plus and Frontier guarantees the seat next to you stays empty.

It's the one seat product on Frontier that comes with that promise built in. Premium, Preferred and Standard don't carry it. If an empty middle seat is the actual goal, UpFront Plus is the specific product to ask for, not just any upgrade at the front of the plane.
Free upgrades by Elite status, the app window, tier by tier
    Diamond, at check-in

Top-tier Diamond members are upgraded to UpFront Plus or Premium for free right at check-in, through the Frontier app, ahead of every other tier.

    Platinum, 12 hours before departure

Platinum members clear next, 12 hours out. By this point Diamond members have already taken first pick of what's open.

    Gold, 4 hours before departure

Gold members clear last, 4 hours before departure, on a full flight, there may be nothing left by then. Check the app early rather than waiting for your window.

    Seat products, front to back

Frontier sells four seat types plus a new premium cabin rolling out fleet-wide. Availability depends on aircraft and route, confirm current options at flyfrontier.com.

UpFront Plus, front of the plane, guaranteed empty middle:

Extra legroom at the front of the cabin, with the middle seat next to you guaranteed empty. It's included with the Business bundle or can be bought on its own.

    Premium, extra legroom, limited availability:

More legroom than Standard, without the front-row placement or empty-middle guarantee of UpFront Plus. Comes with the Premium bundle or as a standalone add-on.

Preferred, near the front, easier boarding:

Standard legroom but a better location, closer to the front of the aircraft, which usually means less time waiting to board and deplane.

    Standard, back and middle rows:

Standard legroom, toward the rear and middle of the cabin. This is the seat you're bundled into on the Economy fare, and the seat type you're randomly assigned into if you skip selection altogether.

A new "First" seat is rolling out:

Frontier is introducing a 2x2 First-style seat on its refreshed aircraft. It isn't fleet-wide yet, ask us whether it's on your specific route before you count on it.

    How seat selection actually works

Whether you pay, get it free, or take your chances comes down to status and bundle.

    No selection made
Randomly assigned at check-in, party may be separated
    Paid selection
Pick any open seat at booking or later, price varies by seat and route
    Elite Silver and above
Free seat selection, any seat type
    Economy bundle
    Standard seat included
    Premium bundle
    Premium seat included
    Business bundle
    UpFront Plus seat included

Frontier doesn't publish flat seat prices, cost moves with the seat type, the route, the date and how far out you book, and it changes constantly, so we don't print a number here. Give us your flight and party size and we'll check what's actually open before you pay for anything.

Two ways to a better seat

One path costs nothing if you already qualify; the other is available to anyone.

    Free, by status or bundle

    If you already qualify

    • Elite Silver+, free seat selection on any seat type
    • Diamond, free upgrade at check-in
    • Platinum, free upgrade 12 hours out
    • Gold, free upgrade 4 hours out, if seats remain

Buy it, at booking or later

    Open to everyone

    • Add UpFront Plus or Premium when you book, or any time after
    • Or buy the Premium or Business bundle outright, seat included
    • Subject to availability, popular routes and full flights sell out first
    • Price varies by route, date and how close you are to departure

Traveling with a child 13 or younger? Frontier guarantees you sit together, free. As long as the child and one accompanying adult are on the same reservation and adjacent seats exist on the flight, Frontier guarantees that pairing at no extra cost, on every fare type, including the base fare. It's assigned no later than the day before departure. That's the one seating protection that doesn't require paying for selection or holding elite status, worth knowing before you assume you have to pay to keep your family together.

    Frequently asked

Does Frontier really guarantee an empty middle seat?+
Only in UpFront Plus. That's the one seat product where Frontier guarantees the middle seat next to you stays empty. Premium, Preferred and Standard don't carry that promise. If an empty middle is the whole point for you, UpFront Plus is the seat to ask for specifically, not just any upgrade.
What happens if I don't select a seat on Frontier?+
You're randomly assigned from whatever's left, and your party can end up split across the cabin. The one built-in exception: a child 13 or younger is guaranteed a seat next to one accompanying adult, at no charge, on every fare type, as long as you're booked on the same reservation. Past that pairing, nothing is protected unless you pay for it.
Is Frontier seat selection ever free?+
Yes, two ways. Elite Silver status and above gets free seat selection on any seat type. Separately, a seat is bundled into your fare automatically. Standard with Economy, Premium with the Premium bundle, UpFront Plus with Business, so you're not paying for the seat twice. Tell us your status and bundle and we'll confirm what's already covered.
How do free upgrades by elite status actually work?+
Through the Frontier app, in a tiered window before departure: Diamond members are upgraded free right at check-in, Platinum members 12 hours before departure, and Gold members 4 hours before departure. Earlier tiers get first crack at open seats, so a Gold upgrade can vanish before its own window even opens if the flight fills up. We'll flag your status so nothing gets missed.
Can I just buy UpFront Plus or Premium after I've already booked?+
Yes, you can add UpFront Plus or Premium at booking or any time after, subject to what's still open on your flight. Prices move with the route, the date and how close you are to departure, so we don't quote a number here; tell us your flight and we'll check what's actually available before you pay for anything.
