About Sun Country Airlines

A quick profile of the carrier.

Sun Country Airlines is a Minneapolis-St. Paul based hybrid low-cost carrier. It sells a low base fare and charges separately for extras such as bags and seats, in the ultra-low-cost style, but it also flies a leisure-focused scheduled network and runs charter and cargo operations. Many of its routes are seasonal or operate only a few days a week, connecting Minneapolis and a handful of other cities to warm-weather destinations. Sun Country does not offer an unaccompanied-minor program.

Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) is Sun Country's home base and the center of its network. Because so many routes are seasonal or run only a few days a week, a cancelled flight can be harder to rebook quickly than on a daily network airline, so it pays to act fast when plans change.

Fares & cabins, what's included

Sun Country flies a single economy cabin. What changes is how much legroom your seat has and what you have added to the base fare.

Standard seat
The regular economy seat, with around twenty-nine to thirty inches of legroom. Assigned for a fee or given at check-in if you do not pay to choose.
Exit row
An exit-row seat with the most legroom on the aircraft, around thirty-nine inches, sold as a paid upgrade for travelers who want the extra room.
Best seats
Sun Country's roomier front-cabin seats, around thirty-four inches of legroom, that add recline, power, priority boarding and a complimentary drink.

Baggage, the essentials

General guidance. On Sun Country most bags beyond a personal item cost extra, and adding them in advance is cheaper than at the airport.

Personal item:

One personal item that fits under the seat is included free. This is the only bag that comes with the base fare.

Carry-on and checked bags:

A carry-on for the overhead bin and checked bags both cost extra, priced by route and how early you buy. Add them when you book to pay the least.

Overweight, oversize and special items:

Heavier or larger bags have their own published charges, and special items such as sports gear need advance arrangement.

We can confirm your exact allowance and pre-pay bags for you, just call.

Check-in & boarding

How to be ready on the day.

Sun Country online check-in on suncountry.com and the Sun Country app generally opens before departure and is the easiest way to confirm your seat and add bags. Adding bags online in advance is cheaper than at the airport.

Because many Sun Country routes are seasonal or run only a few days a week, arrive with time to spare. If a flight is disrupted there may not be another Sun Country departure the same day, which makes getting help quickly more important than on a big network airline.

Sun Country Rewards loyalty program

The airline's frequent-flyer program.

Sun Country's loyalty program lets travelers earn toward future flights, and its co-brand credit card adds perks on Sun Country purchases. It is a lighter program than the big airline networks. If you have a Sun Country account or card, mention it when booking and we will make sure it is on your reservation.

Sun Country Airlines: frequently asked

Quick answers, call us for anything specific to your booking.

How do I change or cancel my Sun Country flight?+
It depends on your fare and timing. Sun Country's 24-hour rule gives a full refund within a day of booking if you booked more than a week ahead. Outside that, changes and cancellations follow specific rules, and a no-show carries a flat per-direction fee. Have your confirmation number ready and call us, or manage it at suncountry.com.
What happens if Sun Country cancels or delays my flight?+
You are generally entitled to rebooking on the next available Sun Country flight or a refund, and a controllable disruption can add a meal or hotel support. Because routes are often seasonal, the next flight may not be same-day, so call us right away.
Does Sun Country offer an unaccompanied-minor service?+
No. Sun Country does not offer an unaccompanied-minor program, so a young child cannot fly alone. Travelers must be at least fifteen to fly by themselves domestically. See our Children flying page for the details.
How do I travel with a pet on Sun Country?+
Small cats and dogs can travel in the cabin for a per-direction fee, arranged in advance, on eligible domestic routes. Call us and we will set it up correctly, or arrange it yourself at suncountry.com.
