About Azul Linhas Aéreas

A quick profile of the carrier.

Azul Linhas Aéreas (IATA code AD) is one of Brazil's three big carriers, built around its Campinas/Viracopos (VCP) hub near São Paulo, with strong connecting banks at Belo Horizonte's Confins (CNF) and Recife (REC). It flies the widest domestic network in Brazil, reaching more cities than any other carrier, plus international routes to the United States, Europe and across South America. Azul is generous with cabin baggage: a 10 kg carry-on plus a personal item are free on every fare. Domestically its fares run the base Azul fare and Mais Azul; internationally they climb Economy Azul, Economy Mais Azul, Economy Azul Super and Business. Azul is not part of a global alliance, though it has a domestic codeshare with GOL and other partners. Its loyalty program is TudoAzul (Azul Fidelidade). The legal entity is Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras S/A, based in Barueri, São Paulo.

Fares & cabins, what's included

Azul's fares and cabins, from the base up. Exact inclusions vary by route and whether you fly domestic or international, and the full fare-by-fare grid only shows in Azul's own booking flow, so we confirm the fine print on the call.

Azul (base fare)
The lowest, most restricted fare on domestic and South America routes. No checked bag is included and standard seat selection is paid, though free seats open 24 hours before departure subject to availability. The 10 kg carry-on plus a personal item are still free.
Mais Azul
Adds a 23 kg checked bag and free seat selection at any time. The common choice for travellers with luggage who want to pick a seat early.
Economy Azul / Mais Azul / Azul Super
On international routes the economy ladder climbs Economy Azul (bag paid), Economy Mais Azul (first bag free) and Economy Azul Super (first two bags free), each adding free checked allowance as you move up.
Espaço Azul / Economy Xtra
An extra-legroom seat, about 86 cm of pitch, with priority boarding. Espaço Azul is the domestic version; Economy Xtra is its international equivalent. This is a seat upgrade, separate from your fare bundle.
Azul Comfort
A more comfortable middle tier on eligible aircraft, with extra row spacing, a footrest, priority boarding and upgraded meals.
Business
Azul's international flagship cabin, with seats that recline fully flat, a gourmet menu, lounge access at Campinas plus partner lounges abroad, individual entertainment and priority service. Includes free checked bags.

Baggage, the essentials

General guidance. Your exact allowance depends on your fare, route and TudoAzul status.

Carry-on, every fare:

A 10 kg carry-on plus a personal item are included on all fares, including the base Azul fare. That is more generous than most low-cost carriers, and it is not tied to your fare tier.

Checked bag climbs with the fare:

A standard checked bag is up to 23 kg. Domestically the base Azul fare includes none while Mais Azul includes one. Internationally, Economy Azul includes none, Economy Mais Azul the first, Economy Azul Super the first two, and Business the first three.

Weight ceilings by region:

The maximum weight for a single checked bag is 45 kg on domestic and US/South America routes, and 32 kg on Europe routes. Overweight or extra pieces are charged separately.

TudoAzul status can add a bag:

A qualifying TudoAzul tier (Topázio, Safira, Diamante, Diamante Unique) can unlock extra free checked bags. Add your TudoAzul number so it isn't missed.

We can confirm your exact allowance and pre-pay bags for you, just call.

Check-in & boarding

How to be ready on the day.

Azul online check-in on voeazul.com.br and the Azul app is the easiest way to check in and usually opens well before departure. Brazilian domestic travel needs valid photo ID, such as an RG, passport or driver licence, and old, laminated or damaged documents are rejected. A child travelling domestically needs the documents set out on Azul's minor-documentation guidance, and a birth certificate or ID for the child.

For international departures, Mercosur citizens may use an original national ID or passport, while other travellers need a passport plus any required visa. Watch the newer entry rules for Europe, the ETIAS travel authorization and the EES entry-exit system, which are phasing in. Boarding closes firmly before departure, and international flights need extra time for documents, so arrive well ahead.

TudoAzul loyalty program

The airline's frequent-flyer program.

TudoAzul (Azul Fidelidade) is Azul's loyalty program, where you earn and redeem points on Azul and its partners for flights and more. Its tiers, Topázio, Safira, Diamante and Diamante Unique, can unlock benefits such as extra free checked bags. Azul is not part of a global alliance, but it has partners including a domestic codeshare with GOL, so ask us how your trip earns. If you have a TudoAzul number, give it to us when booking and we'll add it to your reservation.

Azul Linhas Aéreas: frequently asked

Quick answers, call us for anything specific to your booking.

Is a carry-on free on Azul, even on the cheapest fare?+
Yes. A 10 kg carry-on plus a personal item are included free on every Azul fare, including the base Azul fare, and are not tied to your fare tier. What climbs with the fare is the checked bag: the base Azul fare includes none, while Mais Azul adds a 23 kg checked bag and free seat selection.
Can my child fly alone on Azul?+
Only within limits. Azul's unaccompanied-minor escort is mandatory for children 8 through 15 years and 11 months flying without an adult, and it runs on direct, Azul-operated flights only, not on connections. On connecting itineraries, only 16 and 17-year-olds not using the paid service may travel. Brazilian parental-authorization rules are strict, with several valid routes, so call us and we'll walk you through it.
Can I bring my dog to the United States on Azul?+
Not in that direction. Azul carries pets in the cabin only, and dogs may fly only from the United States to Brazil, not from Brazil to the United States. Cats may travel in both directions. There are also no in-cabin pets on Azul Conecta flights, and Azul does not accept emotional-support animals. If your trip involves a pet, call us before you book so we can plan around these limits.
Does Azul have a 24-hour refund rule?+
Yes. Under Brazil's consumer-law regret rule, you can cancel for a full fee-free refund within 24 hours of buying, provided the ticket was purchased at least seven days before departure. Timing is strict, so tell us right away if you just booked.
Does Azul carry medical oxygen or a stretcher?+
No onboard medical oxygen. Azul's Contract of Carriage bans oxygen gas and cylinders from both carry-on and checked baggage, and no onboard oxygen service is offered, so an oxygen-dependent traveller needs to plan carefully and call to confirm. A stretcher service is not listed anywhere on Azul's site either, so treat it as not offered and confirm directly. Call us and we'll help you sort the options before you book.
Is Azul in an alliance like Star Alliance or oneworld?+
No. Azul is not part of a global alliance. It does have partners, including a domestic codeshare with GOL, and its own loyalty program is TudoAzul.
